5 Cool Smoothies for a Hot Day

Homemade smoothies are a great choice for the summer months. Make sure yours include some that have a healthy dose of protein to fuel the muscles for all of those summer activities, such as swimming, hiking and more.

Here is a selection of smoothies that can be refreshing, filling and pack a healthy punch to your day. Shop for organic berries and ingredients when possible.

Banana Strawberry Protein Smoothie

1 scoop vanilla whey protein

8 ounces of milk

1/2 cup frozen organic strawberries

1 ripe banana

3-4 ice cubes

Place all ingredients in a blender and pulse until blended. Pour into glasses and serve. Makes 2 large smoothies, or 4 smaller ones.

Creamy Raspberry Strawberry Smoothie

1 cup low fat raspberry yogurt

1/2 milk

1 cup frozen raspberries

3/4 cup frozen strawberries

2 cups of ice

Place all ingredients in a blender and pulse until blended. Pour into glasses and serve.

Raspberry Lemonade Smoothie

2 cups lemonade

2 cups ice

1/2 pint fresh raspberries

Combine ice and lemonade in blender and pulse until ice is crushed.

Add raspberries and process until smooth.

Pour into your glasses and garnish with lemon slices if desired.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie

1 tablespoon chocolate whey powder

2 cups of milk

2 tablespoons chocolate milk syrup

1/2 teaspoon dry chocolate pudding mix

1/4 cup peanut butter

1 banana

1 cup ice

Place all ingredients in a blender and pulse until blended. Pour into glasses and serve.

Peanut Butter Banana Protein Smoothie

1 scoop of vanilla why protein

10 ounces milk

1 tablespoon natural peanut butter

1 ripe banana

5 small ice cubes

Place all ingredients in a blender and pulse until blended. Pour into glasses and serve. Makes 2 large smoothies, or 4 smaller ones.
