9 Years Ago This Week

I am sitting here thinking back to 9 years ago this week when child protective services called and told us that the two brothers that we adopted in July 2002 now had a beautiful little girl and asked if we wanted her. Now we just got the boys 5 months before this call came. Ok so you don’t know me but if the biological mother of our sons had 10 kids we probably would have said yes.

When the call came I was work when a case worker called and said the boys’ mother was in jail and she had another baby. The case worker was not the same one we worked with 5 months earlier because the baby girl was born in a different county. She asked if we would want her and I said yes right away. She said that she was 3 weeks old and that she was taken directly from the hospital and put in a foster home when they ran the mothers information through CPS’s computer. When they did that they found out that she had lost her other two children. It took them a little while to go through the system and find us so for the last 3 weeks she was in a foster home.

She then said that they were going to bring her to us the next day. I hung up in shock and called my husband and told him “hey CPS called and the mom is back in jail and she had another baby and asked if we wanted her. I said yes so I hope you do too because they are bringing her tomorrow.” Then I hung up. He called right back of course and lucky for me he said ok. That night we went home told the boys that they had a sister who was coming home the next day. Now they were only 3 ½ and 1 ½” so they really had no clue what was happening.

About Tammy Woolard

My name is Tammy and I am 40 year old mother of 3 wonderful children who came to us through domestic adoption. Although we did not have any fertility issues we chose adoption because there are so many kids that did not ask to be born but truly want a family to love. We did research on adoption choices and decided on domestic adoption through CPS. You would be surprised the differences between each agency. The adoption process is nothing like you see in the movies. I am also a 5 year breast cancer survivor. When I was diagnosed my kids were 3, 5 and 7 I did so much research I may have driven my Dr. a little crazy but that is ok it is my body not his.
