A Book of Great Recipes for Slow Cookers

If you’re after recipes for your slow cooker you’ll want to rush and get a copy of Slow Cooker by Sally Wise. I received a copy of this book to review and it’s the best slow cooker book I’ve seen, filled with great recipes.

It’s summer in Australia so I haven’t been using my slow cooker as much (I’m still a bit in holiday mode) but come autumn and winter this will be the first book Ill reach for.

If you have a family who loves chicken like Michele’s family does then you will love Bedevilled Chicken (Aussie spelling here since it’s an Aussie book )and it’s so easy which in my book is always another advantage. For those who are gluten free there’s nothing in it that doesn’t have a gluten free equivalent. Just check the labels on your ketchup and Worcestershire sauce to make sure it is the gluten free kind. Not all are.

Thyme Chicken with Apricot Jus, is another great recipe, just substitute rice crumbs for the breadcrumbs and make sure the corn flour is actually made from corn not wheat as most is. Lemon Roast Chicken is another beauty.

If you want a great dessert that can be cooked in the slow cooker you can’t go past Lemon Marshmallow Meringue Pudding. Even the name is enough to get the taste buds going. Just remember to use rice crumbs instead of breadcrumbs if you’re gluten free. There are plenty of other great desserts as well. Any wonder this is fast becoming my favorite cook book!

What I particularly liked about this book is the majority of ingredients are readily available and most recipes lend themselves well to be adapted for the gluten free which is always big plus in my book.

People sometimes say to me ‘Oh it must so hard being wheat and gluten free.’ It’s really not. It’s just a matter of learning to adapt. So this book scores my tick, not only for great tasting recipes but for recipes that are easy to adapt for the gluten free.
