A Children’s Play Space

One of the great things about modern homes is that they often factor in a space for children to play. Whether reminiscent of the old time nurseries, or of a more modern sociability, play spaces for children are a great idea for your home.

What do I mean by a play space? Well, think of a playroom, where the room or the space is dedicated as a place for children to play in the home. Toys, creative craft items etc, are stored in this area, too.

There are several ways to approach creating a play space. I have seen everything from homes where four or more rooms, complete with different toy stations, are set up as play spaces, to homes where shared space can convert to a play space when needed and then back to a room with another purpose.

How your define your space will depend on several factors, such as:

The size of your home (What is the available extra space? Can you dedicate a room or rooms, or will your play space area need to have a dual purpose)

The ages of the children (Can they play on their own, or do they need to be near you?)

Other members of the family (does someone work from home or have other special requirements?)

The types of toys (Do you have to separate toys or activities for the safety of smaller children; do you have a lot of large toys? Will the children need an indoor space for ride on toys?)

Your family lifestyle (Are you an outdoorsy family? Do you prefer to do most of your playing at home?)

You want to create a space that will not only suite the children, but also the rest of the family and the integrity of your home design. By carefully thinking through the above factors, you’ll be on your way to having a children’s play space that will work well for everyone.
