A Different Approach to Valentine’s Day

null

‘Valentine’s Day is every day, or it should be.’ That’s what my darling husband said when I told him the title of my yesterday’s blog. You see, he agrees with me in thinking Valentines Day is overrated. He also believes, as I do, there’s no point making a big fuss over your spouse on that one day of the year if you’re not going to keep it up every day of every year.

Okay, so you may not be able to afford gifts every day of the year, (and neither should you have to) but you can still show by the things you say and do just how much you love your spouse.

Last week we tended to clear out our schedule and usual planned activities for this week, so we could spend time with our daughter and son in law. They were on a short term mission overseas during the Christmas period, so we’re actually celebrating Christmas together today. For the time they are here, Mick and I are happy to do whatever they want to do. The most important thing is spending time with them.Along a similar vein the love dare suggests, ‘Purposefully neglect an activity you would normally do so you can spend quality time with your spouse,’ Ecclesiastes 9:9.

In other words, ‘It’s the Little Things you do’ as a 60s song I heard recently said. Or maybe it’s the little things you don’t do, so that you can spend time doing something your spouse likes that shows Valentine’s Day love every day. That’s why I thought Mary Ann’s appreciation box was a good idea, though I never got around to doing anything about it. Maybe it’s something to keep in mind for next year. But each day I try and compliment Mick on something he has done or show I love him by a cuddle, a kiss, some other demonstration of love or a combination of the above. He does the same with me.

Not that I need an excuse, but I’ve certainly had plenty of opportunity to praise him lately as he’s been so patient re-creating a wedding wall. A blog explaining exactly what that is and how to go about will be along next so don’t forget to check back for that.
