A different type of frugal blogger

What do you get when a spendthrift marries a frugal person? You get a frustrated frugal person. Being married to a man who loves to buy cool stuff, my in goal in life is either to talk him out of purchases, or to beat him to the punch. In other words, I find good deals on things he wants before he pays full price for them.

With that said, I am new to the frugal blog, but not to families.com. I have been on the site for a couple of years now as the Homeschooling blogger. I now have the honor to write not only for homeschooling, but also parenting (specifically teens), the home blog , and also the frugal blog. In short, I will be writing a little over here, and a little over there!

My background in frugality is as follows. I am a mother of two tween/teen kids and I homeschool. I am also a wife and stay at home mom who does freelance writing from home…hence, this gig. Anyway, I first dabbled with frugality back when I was pregnant with my first child. I found out I was pregnant a few days after I quit my job in a hormonal rage and with the discovery of a child on the way, we decided that I would not look for a new job. I did work a bit through that pregnancy, as a temp, and I used all of my earnings on preparation for my first child. Needless to say, when I officially came home, I had to adjust from living on two incomes to living on one. I did so swimmingly with the help of Amy Dacyczyn, author of the Tightwad Gazette.

My journey in frugality has evolved over the years. I started out watching our pennies in order to stay home, and later to purchase our first home, which we did on one income. As my husband’s income rose, my frugal interests have turned to sensible bargain shopping, finding the best deals on items before my husband can pay full price. The good news is that he how gives me time to research purchases before he goes out and buys. Personally, I hate paying full price for anything, so I am glad to do the research to prevent a full price purchase.

While I haven’t left any tips today, I felt it was important to share my background in frugality so you would know where I am coming from. Meanwhile, here is a compilation of some of my favorite blog posts already on families.com.
