A Frugal Breakfast Quest

Breakfast is known as the most important part of the day, so striving to make it healthier, yet frugal friendly in our household has been a major goal. With five kids and a daily challenge of finding the most frugal alternatives to start their day of right, we have gathered together, what we consider some really great and frugal breakfast ideas.

It has been difficult at times because we have a picky eater, who until I came along never ate healthy, who thinks anything she eats for breakfast has to include chocolate in some way. S’mores poptarts which I despise, Chocolate cereal, etc. The child is obsessed with chocolate, and the way I look at it, is as long as I’m in charge of grocery buying, chocolate is not a breakfast, lunch or dinner item. Works great for snacks and dessert, but certainly not for breakfast.

Finding healthy and frugal alternatives can be hard though. Thankfully for my one son, he enjoys heating up leftovers for breakfast. Strange, but perfectly okay with me.

Another daughter of mine absolutely loves fresh fruit, which can get expensive. So we looked for alternative ways to use fresh fruit and extend it at the same time. We came up with several.

With the high prices of boxed cereals, the rising costs of breakfast meats and the continued rising of the price of a pack of eggs and a gallon of milk, seems that breakfast time is not for frugal people.

In my opinion, that isn’t true, and I set out on a quest to prove it. After two months of my kids and I working closely together to make our dollars stretch as far as we could, we have come up with some solutions that work for us. And they are all healthy and frugal!

These ideas will be posted this afternoon. Please come back and visit the frugal blog to learn some great ideas for breakfast!
