A Great Crayon Remover

A couple of weeks ago, I was at the computer as my sweet little toddler boy sat peacefully coloring nearby. It was great to get an opportunity while he was actually awake to get some things done. Soon after, he was in the kitchen playing. I didn’t question what he was doing, instead I naively thought how great it was that he was entertaining himself. Usually when I am at the computer he wants to sit on my lap and push the buttons on the computer screen. Content that I had a little time to myself, I paid little attention to what he was doing.

It wasn’t until much later, (after he had gone down for a nap) that I found out the price for my inattentiveness….Crayon. On the front of the refrigerator. On the door to the pantry. On the wood paneling around the dining area. I am sure that any parent can relate to finding crayon on the walls. For me, it was my first time, and I really didn?t know what to do. I tried scrubbing it with a wet cloth, but of course that didn’t work. Soap didn’t work either. So, I did what many other parents would do–I left it there. At least it wasn’t out in the open where guests would see it.

When I told a friend about what had happened, she suggested a new product out on the market. She said it was great for taking crayon off of walls. I put it on my list of things to buy, but after a few days I still had not gotten to the store, and there was still crayon on my walls.

The solution
Upon doing a little research about baking soda, I was informed that you can use baking soda to remove spots from walls. I decided to try it on the crayon. I sprinkled baking soda onto a wet washcloth and scrubbed the crayon marks. And what do you know? It worked! A simple little thing like baking soda. And much cheaper than a cleaning product from the store. Next time I will try a frugal cleaning method before even thinking of buying something else from the store.
