A Hidden Jewel: The Timekeeper

One of the true pleasures of going to Disney World or Disneyland is going to see the attractions hosted within the parks. One of these attractions must be new because I don’t recall seeing it the last time I was there (2005), but trust me – it’s on the top of my list to see the next time I set foot in the Magic Kingdom. What is this jewel that is making the top of my list? It’s called:

The Timekeeper

The Timekeeper is a time-travel movie adventure that is open seasonally. The presentation lasts about 20 minutes and you can expect to wait 10 to 15 minutes to get inside to see it. There are lasers, movies and wait for it – robots. The attraction first began as a presentation at Disneyland Paris with the name Le Visionarium.

The Timekeeper is a humanoid who utilizes 9-Eye, her time traveling robot companion that utilizes 9 different cameras for eyes. You meet both the Timekeeper and 9-Eye during the pre-show before you enter the main theater. Once inside, you are treated to the delight of the Timekeeper setting 9-Eye into a time machine and then sending her off on a time-traveling adventure, that we the audience get to view through one of her camera like eyes.

9-Eye ventures through time to prehistoric Earth and then forward again to meet Jules Verne. Jules Verne tags along for the ride and visitors get to enjoy the audio-animatronics, Vision 360 technology and high-tech special effects.

All This & Robin Williams, too

Walt Disney pioneered animatronics in his presentations and The Timekeeper is a true tribute to this art form. Robin Williams is the featured voice and his excitement infects the audience as only Robin Williams can (who can forget his fantastic turn as the Genie in Aladdin?)

Perhaps one of the most underrated attractions at the Magic Kingdom, The Timekeeper is a must see for any family paying a call on the Magic Kingdom – so the next time you visit Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, be sure to check out The Timekeeper, the air conditioning alone makes it very comfortable especially on hot afternoons in the summer.

Have you had a chance to see The Timekeeper?
