A Note of Thanks: To My Husband

I’ve spent the last few days preparing for Thanksgiving and working with my daughter so that she understands how to say thank you and be thankful in all aspects of her life and not just at the big spread tomorrow. In that light, I want to say thank you for my husband. Let me tell you a little story of a little girl that didn’t dream about white picket fences and the house in suburbia.

When I was growing up, through my pre-teen and teenage years, I remember wishing on eyelashes, on birthday candles and even on falling stars that I could find someone who could argue with me as passionately as they loved me. I wanted someone who was strong enough to stand up to me and to be as passionate in his convictions and his beliefs.

A Strong Marriage

I wanted a strong marriage. I wanted a strong partner. I’ve always been someone who was passionate in my beliefs. I am strong in many areas, but those strengths can sometimes be a flaw in that I tend to steamroll over people who don’t have the strength to stand up to me. I wanted a spouse who was strong enough to do so and who would be equally strong in their support.

I’m lucky and I’m grateful, I got what I wished for. My husband’s strengths complement my own. He gives me support, he’s a team player, he stands beside me and he gives me a swift kick when I need it. He takes care of me, he loves me and he forgives me. I am thankful for my husband and I’m thankful for the family we have built together.

We’re not perfect, we’re far from ideal and we’re not always going to get it right. But we do learn from our mistakes and we find new ways to make each other smile. He’s my best friend. He’s the person I want to talk to when things go wrong. He’s the one I want to talk to when things go right.

He’s the one I want to talk to no matter what. There is no way to say thank you enough for that so this Thanksgiving, I am very grateful and thankful for my husband.

What are you thankful for?
