A Pattern of Power, Prayer and Preaching.

Do you find your life lacks power and purpose? Could it be, because it is not under girded by prayer?

1. The disciples told Jesus about Simon’s mother in law, who was in bed with a fever. They brought her needs to Jesus, verse 30.

So too we need to bring the needs of others to Jesus for Him to deal with.

2. Jesus healed Simon’s mother in law. Notice what happened. Her immediate reaction to being healed was to serve. She wanted to give something back to Jesus for what He had done for her, verse 31.

Are you one who gladly serves in thankfulness for what Jesus has done for you?

3. People brought their sick to Jesus because they saw he cared about the physical needs of people, verse 32.

He cares about our needs too. Is there a person or situation you need to bring to Him?

4. Jesus showed who He was by what He did. He showed He was a Messiah concerned with the frailties needs of others, verse 34.

We may not be able to heal as Jesus did, but we still reveal ourselves by what we do. Do we have that same concern for the needs of others that Jesus has?

5. Jesus started the day in prayer verse 35.

Jesus knew how important it was to draw aside and spend time with His Heavenly Father. He knew He needed refreshment, strength and renewal. We also need to start the day with our Heavenly Father. We need to be renewed, strengthened and refreshed for the day ahead. We need to determine what He would have us to.

6. The disciples did not understand why Jesus had gone off alone when everyone was looking for him, verse 37.

Jesus knew it was more important to draw aside and spend time with God than cater to the needs of men. The person who does not have time to pray and seek God is simply too busy. If Jesus needed to pray how much more do we?

7. Jesus never lost sight of his purpose. He knew that an important aspect of His ministry was not healing, but preaching the good news of the kingdom while He was on earth, verse 38. Preaching always was a critical component of His ministry, verse 39.

Sometimes we can get sidetracked into other tasks, when what people really need is to hear the good news of Jesus and the importance of clear, biblical teaching.

God’s power was evident in the life of Jesus because he was primarily a man of prayer, allowing His heavenly Father to dictate the pattern of his life and ministry.Jesus set up a pattern for us to follow. Are you a man or woman of prayer allowing your Heavenly Father to direct you into the pattern He has for you?
