A Time of Transition

Yesterday was our Stake meeting to realign the ward boundaries in our stake. A lot of big changes took place. It was an exciting (although very long) meeting, and I am excited about the new changes.

One thing I learned is that our ward was originally established in 1905. It is so amazing to be a part of a ward with such a history. Although the boundaries have changed many times since then, it is very cool to think about all the members of the church that have lived in my neighborhood before me.

Another interesting fact that I learned at the meeting was that the stake when it was originally established had around 15,000 members. Today, we are struggling with just a fraction of those numbers.

My husband and I were both released from our callings along with all other members of our previous ward. That is because our ward was completely dissolved. Our ward was not alone. Our stake went from having 8 wards to just 5 now, each meeting in their own separate buildings.

While I did hear some negative remarks from some members of my previous ward, I think that for the most part, the members in this area are grateful for the change. We desperately need more members to serve, and as our ward is stronger, I believe this area will grow stronger as a result.

Most of our ward members are staying in our new ward with the exception of just a select few. But, we are adding a large area to our ward. The next few weeks will be interesting as the new bishoprics in all the new wards that were established will be working to fill callings for all the positions that make up a ward. It is an interesting time of transition, but one that is much needed, and one that I hope will help the work of the Lord move forward in a very historic part of the Salt Lake Valley.
