Affordable Easter Fun

You don’t have to go into debt trying to make Easter fun for your kids. Forget about dropping big bucks on massive toy-stuffed Easter baskets and other activities and consider the following kid-friendly frugal options instead:

EASTER EGG RACE

Materials:

12 Easter eggs–6 pink and 6 green (you can use your favorite color eggs just make sure there are six of one color and 6 of another)

Basket

Masking tape

Large spoons

Directions:

Use the masking tape to a line.

Place all the pink eggs on the floor in a line at intervals of one foot. Place the basket at the end of the line.

Form a similar line with the tape a little distance away and place the green eggs there.

Choose two players as team captains and have them select teammates.

One team chooses the green row, and the other, the pink. One player from each team competes at the same time.

Have the two players stand by their respective rows.

Give each a large spoon.

When you say, “go” each player scoops up the eggs, one at a time, and carries them to the basket at the end of the line.

Once a player completes the task the next teammate proceeds to race with the eggs in the opposite direction and so on and so forth until all players get the eggs across the line.

The team that finishes the race first wins.

AFFORDABLE EASTER EGG DECORATIONS

Instead of paying for expensive Easter egg decorating kits that include everyday embellishments, go through your scrapbooking stash to create gorgeous Easter eggs. Trims, stickers, glitter, sequins, rub-ons, and gems can give an ordinary dyed egg extraordinary flair. Just make sure your eggs are dry before you embellish them.

Once you have your eggs decorated don’t shop around for an expensive basket to place them in. Rather, improvise with a pretty straw hat or large Easter bonnet. Simply turn the hat over and fill it with paper ribbons or Easter grass and nestle the colored eggs (real or artificial) inside.
