Answers to Interview Questions Part 2

Here are a few more of the most common interview questions and how to answer them:

Why do you want to work here?
Don’t say “I don’t know”. It is also important that you explain why you want to work specifically for this company. Talk about how you are excited about where the company is going or how you think it is a great opportunity. Give reasons why you want to work for them and then follow up with how you can benefit the company.

Why do you want to work in this field?
If this is a new field for you, then you need to explain why you are interested in working in this area. What makes you think you would be good at it? What drew you to this particular field in the first place? What have you done to prepare yourself to perform the new job duties.

Why are there gaps in your employment history?
If there are gaps of more than a month or two between your jobs, then you need to be prepared to explain these periods. If you were staying at home with your kids, that’s fine. It’s okay to tell them that. However, you need to explain why now is a good time to go back to work and what you are doing to make sure that the transition will be smooth both for you and for your children.

If you were out of work for another reason, then explain that as well. If you were looking for work and couldn’t find a job, then just tell the interviewer that. If you were not working because of a health condition or because of a family crisis, then you need to explain what you have done to resolve that issue and how it will no longer interfere with your ability to hold down a job. The key here is just to be honest, but also to explain the changes you have made in order to make sure you are a reliable employee.
