A recent show I was watching displayed a group of men discussing their marriages and relationships. In this conversation, the men were complaining that their women were impossible to please. They commented that no matter what it was that they did, it was never good enough.
So are they right? Are women impossible to please? Do we always long for more?
I should never admit it but I began thinking that perhaps they are right. I could visual a woman who would give anything for her husband to do something romantic just one night. She would be some overwhelmed and pleased with his thoughtfulness and kindness.
I could then picture her coming home to a candlelit dinner and how her heart would fill with happiness. I can then imagine how time would go on and she would long for more of that one night that she had hoped for.
I myself have thought many times, “if only he would…”. Then he does it and there is always another blank to fill in the statement.
I honestly can imagine how it could seem at times that there is no end to cycle of continuous needing and no beginning to gratefulness.
There are some things that you can do to help you gain a better appreciation of what you have.
When thinking about your husband, think about specific qualities that you are thankful for. Tell him specifically what he does that makes you happy.
In return try to discover what it is that you do that pleases him. Try to do at least one of those things on a daily basis. The kindness and happiness is sure to be returned to you.
Do not look too much into friends, books, articles that idealize marriage into a fantasy world and give you false impressions of what your husband should be. He should treat you well, but let’s face it not every marries a Romeo.
