Isn’t it crazy the way babies grow so quickly? It seems that you just get used to one stage and boom they are already into another. Tonight, were busy getting the household all set for my eldest child’s first day of second grade. My two younger ones are excited and want to start school, too. It will be a busy month.

September 2nd

Babies Are Built to Say “Mama” and “Dada” First!

Do you remember your baby’s first words? If your home language is American English, then chances are pretty good that those first words uttered by your baby were “mama and dada.” In fact, it is so common and expected, that many of us discount those words as the first. I consider my eldest child’s first word to be “gentle,” although he did say both mama and dada months before. (The word my youngest firs said was “uh-oh,” which tells you a lot about their personalities.)

The Power of Finger Paint

If you are looking for a great activity for your toddler or preschooler, consider finger paint. Yes, I know it is messy, but you can’t beat finger paint for a young child when it comes to discovery and development. From the colors to the squishy texture between little fingers, finger paint is an opportunity to learn all sorts of things. Here are a few tips to help you get the most you can from experiencing finger paint with your child.

Should You Worry About Infant Abductions?

We have all heard the scary stories about babies being taken away from their parents. I remember worrying so much about this when each of my children were infants. What if someone came in to the hospital and snatched our child? What if I turned away for a moment at the grocery store and turned back to find that my child wasn’t there. Of course, the worry that your child will go missing stays with you probably forever. I still make sure to keep my kids in site at all times whenever we are in public.

Now that Fall is starting to show its colors, my kids are more exited than ever to be outside. They are busy exploring nature, examining seed pods, planting popcorn and watching migrating birds. As a new mom, you may be looking forward to joining an organized group of other moms.
