In this blog, I am going to share how I designed the cover and bound the book. In the previous blog, I explained how I designed the inside pages of the album.
Materials needed for the cover:
Bazzill Basics 6 X 6 Coverall Album (White)
Waxed Linen Thread
Basic Grey Patterned Paper and Fibers from the Sweet Pea Jack Line
Brown Stamping Ink
Coordinating Ribbon
Making Memories Chipboard Letters
Before explaining the process for creating this album, I would like to explain what a coverall album is. This is an album cover that is chipboard covered with Bazzill white card stock. The inside is not covered and the chipboard can be seen until you cover it. The spine of the album has nine holes punched that can be used for binding the album. It comes with insert pages that are 6 X 12 sheets of white paper that have been folded in half and have three holes punched on the spine to uses for binding.
1. For the cover, I painted it a shade of blue that complimented the paper. I cut two stripes of the patterned paper and one length of fiber. I ran those through the Xyron machine and stuck them to the cover. I used chipboard letters that I painted to spell out James’ name and also ran those through the Xyron.
2. On the inside covers, I placed 6 X 6 pieces of the patterned paper.
3. I used my brown ink pad and rubed it along the edges of the album and the inside patterned paper.
4. To bind the book, I first took the top pile of inserts (four pages folded inhalf) and placed them in the album. Using waxed linen thread, I tied the pages to the album cover. I then repeated the process with the next two piles of inserts.
5. For the final step, I tied pieces of ribbon and fiber around the linen thread on the spine to cover the thread and make it look polished.
When I mailed the album to my sister, I also included a disposable camera that she can use to take a couple pictures each month on James’ birth day (the 21st of each month.) Then at the end of the year she can develop one roll of film and have all of the pictures she needs to complete the album. I hope that my sister enjoys this album and much as I enjoyed making it!
