A hacksaw comes in handy for lots of things too. If a storm knocks down a small branch, you can easily cut it up with a hacksaw to dispose of it, or if a branch snaps, you can cut it the rest of the way.
A good pair of pliers has numerous uses. Look for a pair with coated handles for added comfort. You can also pick up tool kits that don’t cost a lot but include all the basics. Many are available in custom cases for easy storage and portability. Tool kits also make great gifts for new homeowners or your favorite beginning do-it-yourselfer.
