Be Flexible during the Busy Holiday Season

If there was ever a time in which busyness could become a good excuse for not exercising, it is certainly during the holidays. Most of us are working, taking care of families and trying to find time to make holiday preparations.

I feel that stress of trying to get everything done. It is the middle of December and I don’t have all of my gift shopping done. I have yet to bake cookies and there are upcoming parties to attend, let alone planning out Christmas day in which I am hosting.

But instead of using busyness during the holiday season as an excuse to not stay fit, take advantage of this time to be flexible. Flexibility can help you squeeze in exercise yet still get everything done that you need to.

If your normal time of exercise doesn’t work because of busyness, then change it. Getting up a little earlier in the morning to get in a good workout or walk may actually give you more energy for the rest of the day. Or perhaps it’s better to move your exercise time until later in the evening. Be flexible.

In the midst of the busyness you are probably trying to figure out how you can still spend quality time with your family. You can combine exercise and family time by enjoying activities like sledding, ice skating, snowboarding or cross-country skiing. Getting out and enjoying the great outdoors will help you to unwind and take a step back from this busy time of year.

If you normally go to the gym for your workout and time just won’t allow you, be flexible in doing some exercises at home. Jumping jacks, running in place, crunches, lunges and lifting weights are just some examples of things you can easily do in the comfort of your living room.

Think flexibility instead of impossible when it comes to fitness during this busy time of the year.
