Beat the Heat with Indoor Activities

In my neck of the woods we have been having a heat wave. It is so hot that playing outside is not even fun for the kids. Normally kids enjoy playing outside in any weather since it is playing outside. But when the weather is burning and the humidity is up it is not the environment for playing outdoors. During times like this we need indoor alternatives to beat the heat. I am not fond of staying indoors in the summer months. I enjoy the sun and spending time outside even if it is just a walk. Even I had to opt out of the outdoors as I felt a wave of heat hit my body upon opening the front door. My dog was grateful to miss his walk. This is the time for indoor activities with ample air conditioning.

Fun Indoor Activities for Summer

Library: Check your local library for story times, crafts, and events. Most libraries have activities during the summer to keep children entertained.

Bowling: Bowling is always a fun way to spend time with the kids. Some bowling allies have bowling balls and bumper lanes just for little ones.

Indoor Play Areas: Children love to play in the bouncy house or obstacle courses that are featured in many of the indoor playgrounds.

Indoor Waterpark: When it is too hot for even water play outside, you can enjoy a temperate climate indoors while splashing, swimming, and going down the slides.

Movie Theater: Summer is always a time for new movie releases! Take off during the hottest hours of the day (noon to 3pm) and catch a movie. I always remember movies being such a treat when I was a kid.

Basement: Do you have a finished basement or at least a basement available for play? If you need to be home then hide out in the basement where it is cooler. Plan an indoor picnic or make your basement into a party zone.
