Becoming a Healthier Wife

When I made my marital vows to my husband, putting on weight and feeling too tired for housework or intimacy was not a part of them! I was supposed to be his beautiful bride, someone he would want to love, honor and cherish for life. I’ve been wonderfully blessed with a husband who has never made mention of me being overweight in a negative way. He has truly loved me not showing shame with me, and this is a huge reason why I believe he deserves to have me be a healthier and more beautiful wife.

I wasn’t prepared for my metabolism to slow down so much as I got a bit older. As I was gaining weight, I felt I had the rest of my life to lose it and become healthier. Throw in a couple exhausting kids, time working at a computer, a fast food lifestyle and I had some of the ideal ingredients for a heavier “me”. This is not how I want to live the rest of my life. So, what I did was I got my husband a gym membership too! Not only can we spend some quality time working out together, but we are both working toward being healthier. I hope the more I work out, the better I will feel.

I want my husband to look at me and be proud. It’s too easy to get comfortable with our spouse after being married for any length of time and let ourselves go. Here are some things that came to mind in regard to working my husband toward my goals:

  • We need to come to an agreement what food is or is not allow in the home.
  • We need to allow each other work-out time even if we don’t feel like working out together.
  • We need to work out together sometimes.
  • We need to be of encouragement toward one another. Perhaps some healthy competition won’t hurt us either.
