Bedtime Struggles

We had a hard time transitioning Jessie to her big girl bed that we gave up and put her back in her crib with a crib tent. When we needed to move Baby E out of the swing where she’d been sleeping because of severe reflux to her crib, we wanted to move Jessie to her new room so the children wouldn’t wake each other. We knew, however, that Jessie still wasn’t ready to sleep in her twin bed so we moved her crib into her new room. We hoped that sleeping in the room she’s not used to in a bed she is used to that she’d grow comfortable and want to sleep in her bed.

The plan worked out well. Jessie was fine sleeping in her crib in her room and resumed her normal sleeping patterns. The day finally came when she asked to sleep in the bed, which she calls her kitty crib. We were happy to let her sleep there, but told her that the rule is if she gets up, we put her in her crib with the tent. She didn’t last long in bed, but at least she tried.

We ran into bedtime troubles again with Daylight Savings Time. Spring break was at the same time. We spent the whole week with bedtime tantrums and not staying in bed. She never asked to go to school or what happened to school, but I had to believe that there were too many changes at once.

She has a new routine now. She asks to sleep in her kitty crib and we let her. She isn’t coming out of her room and we don’t hear a lot of noise. Every morning, though, we find her sleeping soundly in her crib. She even zips herself in sometimes.
