Being Held Accountable

I have been re-evaluating my fitness goals (it is just over the halfway point for those who made New Year’s resolutions)…feeling good about some things and not so good about others. For instance, I am doing better than I ever have when it comes to exercising.

At the minimum I am exercising three days a week for 30 minutes. But most of the time it is five days a week for 30 minutes.

However, my goal to also incorporate some walking at night hasn’t really happened. Some of that I can blame on the weather. As if hot weather (my least favorite type) isn’t bad enough, the humidity has been unbearable.

Now here is where I am seeing the need for drastic changes. Although I am doing well with exercising, my eating habits continue to be a struggle.

Perhaps you are like me. You love to workout and regularly engage in physical activity. But you don’t seem to be losing the weight as much as you would like. It could be your eating habits.

I thought that with the summer I would be eating more fresh fruits and vegetables. But instead, I have been turning to the old favorite, ice cream.

It’s ridiculous the pull I feel toward the root beer floats, the Heath concrete mixer at “Culver’s”, the huge strawberry shortcake ice cream treat at “Omega”, and the drumsticks that I continue to buy from the grocery store. My fruits and vegetables are being overtaken by ice cream.

So as I started this new week, I made a decision. There is no sense in completely depriving myself. I know it won’t work. But my plan is to eat more fruits and vegetables during the week and over the weekend allow for just one ice cream treat.

I’m not sure if I can do it. So that is why I have sent in for reinforcements. I know that I need someone to hold me accountable. So I have asked my husband and children to help.

Are you finding something in particular to be a struggle? Perhaps it is time you also send in for reinforcements and ask someone to hold you accountable.
