Benefits of Using a Dust Mitt

In my last blog we talked about the living areas and keeping items like DVDs and magazines organized in baskets. Once you have decluttered your living area and organized everything, you need to think about the products you will use to keep this room clean.

The number one cleaning job in any living area is dusting. One of my favorite products I have ever used is a dust mitt. I have only used one made by Norwex but I know there are other brands available.

Good dust mitts are made of microfiber, so unlike a cloth that only scatters dust, these will actually collect and trap the dust. Then you can shake the dust off into a garbage can or preferably, outside.

Another benefit to this product is that the more you use it, the less you will actually have to dust. That’s because you are trapping more dust than you would with a typical cloth, so there is less dust accumulating over time.

And you can’t deny the fact that it’s actually less work to put on a glove and run over your knickknacks and furniture. Kids also get a kick out of helping out with dusting when they get to put on the glove.

Finally, you get the benefit of not using chemicals. Although Pledge and other products like it give your furniture a nice shine, they aren’t actually collecting the dust and believe it or not, they leave a film that can dry out your wood over time.

Although I have never used Swiffer products, I have also heard from others that these are great ways to collect and trap dust as well. However with Swiffer products, you have to replace them.

If you use a dust mitt they can be washed and dried. So this way you are only spending money one time. However they should be air dried since putting them in with fabric softener can cause the microfibers to stop grabbing dust particles.

Happy dusting!
