Best Places on the Internet to Buy Books

Internet shopping is all the rage these days. We can sit at our computers, in our pajamas, no makeup on, and go shopping. There’s no driving from store to store, asking clueless salespersons for help and pushing our way through crowds with overloaded carts. We simply point and click. Within a few days our purchases are delivered right to our door by the friendly delivery man. We’re still in our pajamas, but he’s seen us in our pajamas before and it has ceased to faze him. Yes, indeed, the Internet is the way to go.

As you can guess, one of my favorite things to buy online is books. Delicious, marvelous, fabulous books. Sigh! So, what are some of the best places to go to buy books online?

1. Amazon.com is by far the best place to go. 99% of the books I want, they have. 99% of the time, they are being offered at an outrageous price. I purchased several children’s books for Christmas and paid a penny each, with the standard shipping fees, of course, but I spent about 1/3 what I would if I had gone to the mall, and without the hassle. Lately, I found the need to get some research books and was able to get one for $0.99 and the other for $1.19. If you don’t mind used books, you can pay next to nothing. For a few pennies more, you get a book in better shape, and even brand new books are dirt cheap. Yes, Amazon is your way to go.

2. You can also find books on sale at eBay. If you’re careful, you can get a good deal. The only caution about eBay that I would offer is that the selection is not very big, compared to Amazon. But if they have what you’re looking for, you will get treated fairly at eBay.

3. Barnes and Noble has a great online store, if you’re looking for a brand new release and want it in pristine condition. You can sign up to be a member and get up to 40% off on titles, as well. You can get more information about this on their site.

4. Half.com is a new site, a sister site to eBay. They seem to have some pretty good prices; in fact, I just spied a new copy of “The Kite Runner” for $6.99, brand new in shrink wrap. You can get it as cheaply as $3.66 if you don’t mind some wear. They also have a tab marked “Books for .99 or less,” which makes your bargain hunting easier.

5. Overstock.com offers $2.95 flat rate shipping, which can save you a bundle depending on the weight of the book you’ve ordered. Many of their brand new books in stock come at a discount of nearly 50% off, a considerable savings.

These are just a few of the many book vendors available to choose from online, but these are the most reputable and the ones I’ve had the best experiences with. So go online, punch in the name of the book you’ve been dying to buy, and see what deal they can cut for you. Oh, and don’t forget to wear your pajamas while doing it.
