Book Review: Adoption Journeys

Adoption Journeys by Carole S. Turner is a great book. Turner herself is an adoptive parent. She is the mother of a little girl from Thailand and knows firsthand what it is to travel the road to adoption. Adoption Journeys is a mix of adoption stories, told by the people who lived them. It is a book that speaks of the hope that adoption brings, even when the road to the completion of the adoption is long and difficult.

What I loved most about this book was its’ diversity. It doesn’t focus on just one type of adoption or one person’s experience. Instead, it explores many different types of adoptions. Because of this, every adoptive parent who reads this story will be able to find a way to identify with the individuals telling their stories. In the words of Dr. Joyce Pavao, who wrote the forward for the book, “There is not just one kind of adoption, there are many. There is not just one reality; there are multiple realities of adoption.”

This book is important because it speaks to the joy and diversity that is adoption. It provides exposure to different kinds of adoption and the amazing joy that it is to those involved.

Whether you are reading about Mark and Allison who had an open domestic adoption, Cal and Lee Ann who adopt from foster care or Tessa and David who tell the story of building an international family, this book is the story of all adoptions. It covers the trials, the joys, the wait and the first meetings of parent and child.

Adoption Journeys is a celebration of adoption and all that it means to us. It is a beautiful book with tender stories that will touch your heart and inspire you as you travel your own journey of adoption.
