Description:
The program featured in Earn It, Learn It is the only one that lets kids ages four through twelve earn by doing “real” jobs. Your child will learn from folks like a:
Toy Designer from Crayola
Curator from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum
Zoologist from the Saint Louis Zoo
Teach your kid the difference between making the bed as a member of the family and earning a living in the real world. Expose your child to art, manners, math, and more. And build a foundation for a lifelong love of learning and fiscal independence.
My Thoughts:
The author is a mother of 2 and marketing executive. I am always interested in reading books written by moms on parenting. So, I was excited to read this book. I thought the concept was interesting and couldn’t wait to find out how it was implemented. The author wanted to instill in her children money sense and responsibility. While chores is a great way for children to earn their allowance, it often backfires or kids end up getting their allowance regardless of how well they preformed their chores. This can also be a bone of contention between child and parent which causes its own set of issues. This book gets rid of all those issues and focuses on teaching children responsibility while learning about careers.
The book includes 50 careers. A child or parent will chose a career for that child to focus on for a certain amount of time. The chapter on that career explains the career in detail and includes activities for your child that relate to the career. The activities can range from interviewing a person in that career, shadowing a person in the selected career or other activities relating to the field. The child will partake in those activities and get “paid” for them. The author leaves the amount up to the parent.
The book is well organized, easy to read and easy to jump right in and use. You child will enjoy learning about all the different careers in the book. The explanations and activities will ignite an interest in a career for your child. The book is written so you can include children from ages 4-12. The book is valuable simply for the activities and explanations of the careers listed. This would be a wonderful study on careers by itself.
