Books Illustrated by Val Chadwick Bagley

One of the most important things that I do with my children is read to them. Val Chadwick Bagley has illustrated some of my favorite LDS board books. We own several of his books, and I get as much out of them as do my children. Tamara Beckstrand has written most of the books I have which are illustrated by Val Chadwick Bagley. The books are simple and to the point, and several correlate with the theme of Primary that year such as “I Will Follow God’s Plan for Me,” and “I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

They also cover simple topics, such as “Sunday Is A Special Day,” My Little Book About Temples,” and “My Little Book About Prayer.” These books are great because they talk about the simple things that young children need to know and understand. It also sets up conversation starters between you and your children. For example the book about prayer talks about the different types of prayer there are, for example family prayers, personal prayers, and Sacrament prayers. It also talks about the correct way to pray. All of these books cover the topics in a similar way.

What I really love about Val Chadwick Bagley’s illustrations is the humor throughout the books. There is almost always something funny in each of his pictures. It might be the child peeking during a prayer or simply the fact that he has our culture down pat in his drawings.

My children also really enjoy “Gospel Truths from the Book of Mormon” a flap book. This will keep them interested for quite a long time as they peek to see what is under each picture. The books are quite enjoyable to read, and I like having books on Sunday topics for my children to read on the Sabbath
