Boost Your Blog Traffic: The Informational Post

Seeking out information is what many web surfers love to do. If you can offer great information, you can be sure to boost the number of visits that your blog gets.

An informational post is one in which you give information on a topic. It differs from an instructional post in that it informs rather than instructs. It is generally fact or new based, although writing opinions can sometimes work as well. It could take the form of a definition, such as what is a lentil? Or it can be some sort of longer explanation that takes the form of a complete feature, such as the entire history of magic in Harry Potter.

There are other great reasons for writing informational posts. Here are a few of those reasons:

  • You can become known as an expert on the subject
  • You can help sell a product, whether it is a book about your topic or an item related to that topic
  • You can “witness” or share your beliefs in the form of an informational post
  • You can educate others by sharing your knowledge
  • You can share news and open up an opinion discussion

An informational post is pretty common out in the blog world, but when it is done correctly, it can really make a website stand out. Think of the website Wikipedia. Wikipedia is entirely devoted to informational posts. And it has gained a reputation for being one of the best places to get information. News sites, such CNN offer informational blogs along with their regular news. And one of the best loved ones is mousesavers, which offers information on Disney deals.

Families.com is full of informational posts. For example, I recently found out that there is an actual holiday designated for sneaking zucchini onto a neighbor’s porch by visiting the Food Blog. And to go back to Disney, the Disney Blog is full of great informational features, such as new attractions.
