Brad Pitt’s Headline Grabbing Birthday Present

She could have gotten him a Porsche, a cardigan sweater, even a nice, manly cologne, but instead girlfriend Angelina Jolie decided to go a different route when shopping for beau Brad Pitt’s 43rd birthday present—-she got him a house. Well sort of, it was more like a tour of a house, which is not to say that the celebrity couple (gazillionaires in their own right) couldn’t afford a new house, but this one wasn’t on the market. It’s nice to dream though, and one of Pitt’s did come true as a result of Jolie’s gift.

So what exactly was Jolie’s gift to her beloved? A trip to Frank Lloyd Wright’s masterpiece, Fallingwater. The birthday boy (his actual birthday is December 18) and self professed architecture buff traveled with Jolie to Pennsylvania Thursday to take a
a two-hour guided tour of the architectural masterpiece, which was followed up with a private birthday party in Fallingwater’s living room. (According to PEOPLE magazine the couple enjoyed champagne and caviar, which Jolie had arranged to have sent in.)

“Brad said he had wanted to experience Fallingwater ever since he took an architectural history course in college,” the house’s curator of education told news reporters following the star couple’s visit.

Fallingwater’s curator went on to say the celebrity pair was “very gracious and very engaged in the house. As we say in the Midwest, you could tell their mothers raised them right.”

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the famous house, Fallingwater is located about 50 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, and is built over the wooded Mill Run creek. Wright built the home for department store magnate Edgar Kaufmann Sr. in the 1930s and it was later voted as The American Institute of Architects’ “Building of the 20th Century.” (For all you Food Network fans, the home also served as the inspiration for one chef’s entry in “Food Network Challenge: Rice Krispies.” The chef created an edible version of the unique home using the puff rice cereal.)

The famous couple’s trip made headlines around the world (are you really surprised) and answered the question of what you get a guy who seemingly has everything. Fallingwater’s curator said Pitt admitted the tour was a “dream come true” for him.

“Brad said he had a visual sense of Fallingwater,” the curator told news reporters “but experiencing it in person, hearing the sound of the waterfall cascading under the house and smelling the wood from the fireplace was better than anything he could have imagined.”

Sounds like it was a heck of a birthday present. I wonder how Jolie plans to top it next year?
