Breast Cancer Fundraising

On October 30th my friend Nicole is going to be participating in the Making Strides: Breast Cancer Walk to Never Lose Hope. The team she is on is being led by her daughter. One thing I have seen is that they are having some trouble raising their funds to meet their goal. Now this is rather surprising to me I wonder if this is because of all the different cancer organizations are starting their own fundraising walks or if the financial crisis in America is keeping the money in peoples wallets instead of supporting great causes like this.

I had mentioned in an earlier entry about the Jim and Joanie Hatcher Foundation. This foundation celebrates breast cancer survivors usually in a yearly luncheon. This year however I received a card in the mail saying that they are not doing that this year but they are donating to breast cancer organizations that are lacking in financial support. I must admit I will miss the luncheon it was great but I totally get it. There are so many organizations out there that are trying to fight this terrible disease, not only breast cancer but cancer in general.

I think I mentioned a t-shirt I have that says “Liberate Iraq later cure cancer now”. I love this shirt because if you think about it how much progress could be made in the fight against cancer if the government that we are paying our taxes to would take the money liberating Iraq or any other one of the many fights that America is involved in, or the money being used to send probes to Mars and men in space. Why can we not direct NASA’s funding directly to cancer research? Would this not cut down on the medical cost of the uninsured? If we could cure some cancer types imagine all the money saved on health care!

Just a thought!

If you have any interest in supporting breast cancer research please consider supporting Nicole’s walk. It would help make up for me not being able to participate in this year’s Komen Walk.

About Tammy Woolard

My name is Tammy and I am 40 year old mother of 3 wonderful children who came to us through domestic adoption. Although we did not have any fertility issues we chose adoption because there are so many kids that did not ask to be born but truly want a family to love. We did research on adoption choices and decided on domestic adoption through CPS. You would be surprised the differences between each agency. The adoption process is nothing like you see in the movies. I am also a 5 year breast cancer survivor. When I was diagnosed my kids were 3, 5 and 7 I did so much research I may have driven my Dr. a little crazy but that is ok it is my body not his.
