“Brother Bear 2” is an extension of “Brother Bear”. As the viewers of “Brother Bear” know, Kenai was turned from a person into a bear during this first movie. “Brother Bear 2” begins with Kenai, still a bear, and his brother Koda, also a bear, waking up from their six months of hibernation.
Kenai is happy being a bear but misses the companionship of his childhood friend Nita. Nita, who is still human, is preparing to marry a man in her village. During the ceremony the ground is spilt and the spirits signal that the marriage should not take place. Therefore the ceremony is not completed.
After the sign is given Nita once again visits the shaman who instructs her to burn the magical amulet that was given to her by Kenai. She is to travel to the falls where she almost drown years ago and carry out the burning of the amulet. The shaman also instructs her that Kenai is to go with her.
On the journey Kenai and Nita rebuild the bond that they once had. They encounter more events with the moose, Rutt and Tuke. They also have the amulet stolen by a raccoon and must battle an army of raccoons to get it back.
Kenai admits to Nita that he has thought about changing back to a human. This is overheard by Koda who becomes upset. There are several close calls along the way after Koda takes off into the cold night.
Finally the amulet is burned and Nita can no longer communicate with the bears. She returns to the village and again prepares to marry. Koda sees Kenai’s sadness from losing Nita and asks the spirits to change Kenai back. He then heads off to the village to find Nita.
Kenai chases him there. At the village the hunters try to kill the bears. Kenai is hurt and Nita goes to him. Her father sees how happy she is with Kenai. Kenai says he cannot change back to be with her because of his duty to care for Koda. Nita decides to change to a bear so she can be with him.
The story shows the power of love. It displays how even when we are apart the ones that we love remain in our hearts. Nita thought that burning the amulet would take Kenai out of her heart. However she found out that nothing can take away her love for another.
