Buying a New Lounge – Part 3

Decide on the type of lounge or sofa you want. Do you want causal or formal. A cane lounge will always be more informal and suitable more for a sunroom or family room than a traditional lounge suite.

Fashion also plays a part in color choice. Back in the 1970s we had a lounge that was orange and brown striped velvet. It sounds awful now, but it was the height of fashion. Needless to say it dated very quickly and now when I look back on that I shudder. We later had it recovered in a more sedate fabric that complemented our country cottage style house.

Also think seriously about comfort as well as appearance and size. Mick and I both like a lounge or sofa which has high backs that give support to the back. Many of the current and inexpensive sofas tend to be short backed. If you’re sitting watching TV or reading or talking they can offer little back support and get very uncomfortable after a while.

Don’t buy on impulse, simply because it is on sale. It’s the quickest way to make a wrong choice and not weigh up all your options.

When negotiating the price don’t forget to ask about deliver y charges. Often these can be quite expensive so you will need to think about the added cost. If you have a truck or trailer you may be able to collect it yourself. Also ask if there is a discount for cash. Alternatively many firms these days are adding a surcharge if you are paying by credit card. On the price of a lounge this can add up. Do they provide a discount for seniors is another to consider for the older age group? Check whether the suite comes with any extras like a matching footstool.

Often warehouse and factories will sell direct and this cuts out the middle man, but check that prices actually are cheaper by comparison shopping. They should be but aren’t always.
