Carbohydrate Blockers Do Work

I am a carboholic.

I have a major problem with starchy carbohydrates. The problem is that I love them. They are comfort food. Cookies, bagels, homemade bread, if it starts with flour then I love it.

The problem for me is twofold:

1. These sorts of things do terrible things to my blood sugar. (Raising it and then dropping it to unheard of lows to the point where I need to take a nap.)
2. Whenever I eat starchy carbohydrates I retain lots of extra water so that my body can process and digest them. (A single bagel can show up on my scale the day after I eat it as a gain of anywhere from one to three pounds.)

So what’s a carboholic to do?

There is a small purple bottle in my cupboard that I make sure is always at least half full. It is called Carb Intercept and it is made by Natrol. I usually buy it at my local Wal Mart in the diet pills section. One bottle costs about $7 for 30 capsules but, for me, it is money well spent.

It seems that somebody, bless their scientific little heart, discovered that White Kidney Bean Extract (Phaseolis Vulgaris) actually turns off your body’s ability to transform starches into sugars and process them as it normally would. (Now it does nothing against simple sugars and fat, so if you put cinnamon sugar on your toast or full fat cream cheese on your bagel, you’re still looking at lots of extra calories.)

So what does this mean?

It means that carboholics who are trying to maintain a low-carbohydrate lifestyle can give in to their occasional cravings and sneak a carbohydrate rich snack once in a while. All you need to do is take two capsules right before you toast that bagel or butter that toast and then savor the flavors you’ve been craving. I should warn you though: if you are eating a single bagel, this will work and you can enjoy your bagel without guilt. If you are going to eat three bagels or a box of cookies, then you’d better pray to the diet gods for forgiveness and hop on your treadmill because no pill will be able to forgive you a binge.
