Celebrating My One Year Anniversary as a Pets Blogger

Happy Anniversary! Not just to me (I officially became a Pets Blogger one year ago this month) but it’s also Families.com’s Second Anniversary this month too. (See Heather Long’s cute All I Want for Christmas… article for more about that.)

In the Beginning…

When Lisa Pietsch, who was the then Administrator (Heather’s now taken over that post), accepted my application and assigned me to Pets I was floored. I went from being very excited to very nervous.

“Can I do it? Will I be able to meet the monthly minimums? What if people don’t like my stuff? What if I run out of things to write about? Where am I going to keep getting ideas from?”

My fears proved unfounded. I soon learned that my fingers often can’t keep up with the flow of ideas my muse gives me. My fellow Pets Blogger Aimee can attest that I have topic ideas that have carried over from one month to another for a few months now. (We coordinate topics with each other every month.)

How Families.com Has Changed My Life

I will forever be indebted to Lisa for changing my life. Being a blogger for Families.com has given me purpose and confidence. It’s the rare Gratitude Journal entry that doesn’t include the line: “For my job with Families.com.”

I have met so many wonderful people, be they readers, people I’ve interviewed, or fellow bloggers. The kinship in this community has been incredible. There’s so much support, wisdom, and love that I can’t help but be inspired and enlightened every single day.

And I’ve learned so much about pets, animals, and conservation over this past year. Both because of things I’ve researched or learned from things Aimee’s written about. (I have to add: my learning hasn’t been curtailed strictly to Pets, but to many of the other categories covered in the blogs as well. This place is home to many a stellar writer I’ve discovered.)

Going Forward

I will continue to be an active Families.com member. Heather’s already helped me on that front. Back in September she also assigned me to Marriage, which was an awesome honor. It’s challenging covering two topics, but I’ve found I really enjoy challenges of such a nature.

Thanks to all of you who have read my postings, left comments, given me stars, have become friends, shared ideas, and in general have made 2007 an amazing year. I’m very much looking forward to 2008 being equally great!
