Celebrating Our Proposalversary

For Wayne and I today is more than just Valentine’s Day. It’s also our Proposalversary!

We’re celebrating Proposalversary number 14. Hard to believe it was Valentine’s Day 1994 when Wayne (finally!) proposed. Seems like just yesterday! Or maybe I want the memory to linger since it was such a long time coming. (If you’re curious about the “proposal story,” such as it is, see: Shopping for Engagement Rings: Go With or Be Surprised?)

Neither of us was expecting to be together today. Wayne’s been busy with work so he was even more at a disadvantage than me. I at least had a few tricks up my sleeve. (And even though it kills me to keep secrets, I once again successfully managed not to spill the beans about the gifts I’d bought. But I think he had an inkling I’d done something because I was being so quiet and low key about today.)

Wayne’s Gifts, Part I

We sort of started last night with the gift exchange. Wayne sacrificed swimming with his master’s team in order to sub in on my volleyball team. (We were down a player and really needed his height and skill against the team we were playing.) My team ended up still losing, but…it sure was nice to have the unexpected pleasure of Wayne’s company en route to the gym and during the match!

Then this morning he got the party rolling early by making me a surprise breakfast in bed. I’m not the happiest camper when I’m roused before the sun’s up, but my temper can always be tamed with an offering of food. (As Wayne’s well aware.)

So he scrambled up some eggs, buttered up some toast, sliced a banana, and poured us a pina colada. (Juice, that is. It’s one of Dole’s newest flavors. Yum!)

But the feast wasn’t just for me. One of my favorite ways to enjoy food is by sharing it. One plate, one glass, two forks… It was a heavenly Valentine’s Day breakfast in bed!

My Gifts, Part I

I didn’t have his cards filled out yet, but his gifts were wrapped. And wrapped well –by Personalized Creations.

After Wayne navigated his way through all the bubble wrap, he found the floral L-O-V-E print and coasters with our names inscribed on them, a bottle of Bath & Body Works Pineapple lotion all for him, and his Valentine’s message in a bottle. Amazingly, the coasters were the biggest hit. (They’re very nice quality and stylish. I don’t always pick so well.)

Wayne’s Gifts, Part II

Around 10 a.m. a flower delivery lady arrived with a vase of six red roses. It’s been quite a few years since Wayne’s delivered roses to me. (Mostly he buys them at the grocery store and delivers them himself.) But today he splurged and made me feel extra special in the process! (And the cats aren’t complaining either.)

My Gifts, Part II

We’ll end the day with a sumptuous fish feast, which I’ll be preparing. (A home cooked meal is always a gift Wayne treasures. He’s so easy to please. Lucky for me –in so many more ways than one!)

Is today your Proposalversary too? Even if it’s not, how are you celebrating with your Valentine?
