Celebrity Weekend Wrap

How did Madonna celebrate signing a new $120 million recording and touring contract with Live Nation? By sharing her new wealth with her aging daughter.

Okay, the Material Girl’s daughter Lourdes is only 11, but the mother-daughter duo plus one (Lourdes’ best friend) reportedly dropped a ton of dough this weekend at a luxurious hotel in Santa Monica.

According to news reports, the pop superstar pampered her daughter (and her pal) with a 6-hour spa treatment to celebrate the tween’s birthday. Madonna’s birthday girl was reportedly treated to various beautifying treatments including a brow wax, massage, facial, pedicure and manicure. Afterwards, the trio dined at an upscale Italian restaurant.

“Law and Order” actress Mariska Hargitay also spent her weekend surrounded by young girls only they weren’t getting their nails painted together. Rather, Hargitay took time to treat the children to a story during the New York Times’ Great Children’s Read literary celebration.

Hargitay was one of more than a dozen celebrities from film, TV and Broadway who volunteered to read at the literacy event. The actress reportedly read aloud from Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White and Ruby Lu, Empress of Everything written by Lenore Look. The books were chosen from the newspaper’s list of New York’s Top 20 All-Time Favorite Children’s Books, which was compiled by children’s librarians from the Brooklyn Public Library, The New York Public Library and Queens Library.

Finally, while his brother was teaching gal pal Kate Middleton how to kill deer on his grandmother’s Scotland property (and dodging engagement rumors—-yet again) Prince Harry was screaming his head off in Paris during the World Cup rugby semi-final. Harry reportedly flew to France specifically for the weekend’s game and watched from the VIP stands. Witnesses say the prince spent more time on his feet cheering on his England team than he did relaxing in the posh VIP area. Lucky for Harry his team won and he was able to dine with the victorious players the next morning. Lucky because news reports claim that Harry passed on the opportunity to stay in Britain and celebrate his girlfriend Chelsy Davy’s 22nd birthday this weekend.
