“Childless by Choice Project”

…matching pairs beat a full house.

I loved this quote! I found it in one of the articles during my research on childfree/childless couples. It seems that many couples are finding the quote to be true. They are much more satisfied being a pair rather than having a full house.

In one of my previous articles that dealt with different marriage types, I described a childless or childfree marriage. In the comment section there was some discussion on which term should be used. In my research on the topic I found the terms to be interchangeable and the usage to be all in the user’s preference. Most articles will comment that the term childless has more of a negative tone than the term childfree. Therefore couples who choose not to have children like to be called childfree because they do not feel that it has a negative impact on their lives.

In the comment section of the same article described above I also made reference to a proposed book that I wished to discuss. This book, Childless by Choice: Love, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness was created by a childless by choice author Laura S. Scott.

Over the years, Scott realized that more and more couples were choosing not to have children. Her interest in this topic brought about three years of research over North America and Canada. In her research, Scott sought out demographers, sociologists, historians, affinity groups, and childfree couples. She placed her focus on determining the factors that lead to the decision for couples to remain without children.

Scott studied over 170 couples who chose not bring children into their marriage.

Before long Scott’s research simply become known as the “Childless by Choice Project”.

Her book and her project discuss how the idea of parenting is now being taken from a given concept to a freedom of choice.
