In my home we not only celebrate Christmas we celebrate a birthday. No, none of my kids were born on Christmas day nor were me or my husband. We are a Christian home and when we celebrate Christmas we essentially are celebrating the birth of Christ. In today’s world of tinsel and reindeer it can be hard to distinguish a Christmas celebration with a birthday celebration. So we are going to put a traditional birthday touch on our holiday this year. I have wanted to do this for quite some time but my daughter suggested baking a birthday cake so this is the year to start new traditions.
Ways to Make Christmas a Birthday Celebration for Jesus:
Bake a cake: Choose your favorite cake flavor and make a traditional birthday cake. Be sure top it with a “Happy Birthday Jesus” and some candles. This is a delicious visual reminder of the true reason for the season.
Gifts for Jesus: Get an empty box and wrap it. Use birthday paper if possible and top with a bow. Then make a slit in the top with a knife. You will want it large enough to slip in an index card. On the day of your birthday celebration be sure to provide index cards and pens for your family. Have each member write down one gift to Jesus. It could be “I will read my bible every day” or “I will be kinder to my brother” or “I will implement family devotion time.” Have every one sign their index card. Then pray over the gift.
Crafts: Make ornaments together for the tree with a birthday theme. Use your imagination.
Decorations: Make sure you decorate your home for a birthday party complete with balloons and party hats. You can still use the traditional Christmas colors if you wish.
