Christmas Fireside Suggestions

A wonderful fireside to have during the Christmas season is one that focuses on Christmas music. This is an easy fireside to set up and it welcomes in the spirit so easily. These ideas can also be adapted to work as a sacrament meeting to celebrate Christmas.

You can have a formal fireside with one or two speakers and musical numbers planned. You may have the choir sing, and then contact other groups to have them perform as well. This is a great fireside that can involve many people in your ward. It is also a great time to invite nonmember friends to learn more about the church.

Another fireside you can do is one where members of the congregation choose hymns and briefly bear their testimonies about how the hymns touched their lives. This can simply on Christmas hymns or can be expanded to all of the hymns. You may choose to sing just one verse, which the person selects or the entire hymn. This is a great way to allow people to share their testimonies in a unique way.

As you plan a fireside that focuses on music, look throughout your ward for those who have talents in music. You may want to include ensembles, and pieces that are just music without singing. Choral music and the congregation singing are wonderful, but it also nice to enjoy instrumental pieces as well.

You can also extend this activity with the youth by going caroling to members of the ward or to those in need. Visiting a nursing home or a hospital wing is another way to help bring Christmas to life by singing the hymns together. You can also do this at your extended family Christmas party. You can ask each family to prepare a selection to perform. You may also consider inviting people to read scriptures to include those that are not musically inclined.
