Christmas Shopping for Your Favorite Shutterbug

left

If you’ve waited until the last-minute to shop for your favorite shutterbug’s Christmas gift, then you are in luck. Fortunately, there are a myriad of great options for photographers of all skill levels that are easily accessible and won’t drain your wallet.

If you are working on a really tight budget, then consider giving the gift of camera cleaning supplies. Photographers–both amateur and professional–need to take care of their equipment. I can’t think of an avid shutterbug out there, who wouldn’t appreciate camera cleaning and maintenance gear, such as microfiber cleaning cloths, lens brushes, blower bulbs, and cans of compressed air. Depending on how much money you have leftover, you could also throw in an accessory or two. Most camera stores have a wide variety of photo accessories that can be used as stocking stuffers. My favorites include media cards, camera straps, and lens cases. Other options that make for practical Christmas gifts are camera cases or bags, card readers, and headlamps.

Another unique gift idea for photographers is camera-themed novelty items. For example, this year I’ve seen a slew of coffee mugs that are shaped like real camera lenses. My local camera supply shop also carries cuff links that look like camera buttons. You could also get your favorite camera-toting pal a t-shirt with some of his most stunning photos silkscreened on the front and back.

For beginner photographers a gift of inspiration is always welcome. Consider buying an educational book or video about photography, or give your photo buff passes to a local museum to view photography exhibits. Another idea if you have a bit more money to spend is a certificate for admission to a photography workshop or you could help finance private lessons from a professional shooter.

Finally, if you want to give a more personal present, consider selecting your favorite shutterbug’s most outstanding images of the year and creating a photo book of them. Or, place the pictures in a customized 2012 photo calendar. You can add custom holidays, such as birthdays and anniversaries of family members and friends, in addition to personal text or captions.
