Classy Scrapper Magazine Interview (1)

As scrapbookers, we are always on the look out for new inspiration. A fellow scrapbooker, Ashley Smith, has decided to take that quest for finding more inspiration a step farther by starting a new scrapbook magazine. Classy Scrapper Magazine will be the title of her new creation that will be launching in March 2007. I am very anxious to see a new scrapbooking magazine full of fresh ideas. On Ashley’s blog, she says that she hopes the magazine will be a place where they will be able to feature more “unknown” scrapbook artists than many of the other scrapbooking magazines.

I recently interviewed Ashley about the new magazine and her process in putting this amazing project together. I’d like to share the interview with you here.

What inspired you to start a new scrapbooking magazine? I tend to go all the way with anything I am involved in. Scrapbooking is no different. I knew that I wanted to do something special and unique long before I knew exactly what that would be. When I went to the Scrap Etc. Event in Birmingham, Alabama in April of this year, I knew the sky was the limit—so many people in this industry are just regular people doing what they love—I knew that I could be just as successful as they had been. My husband actually gave me the boost I needed to go forward—when I complained about the industry norm for magazines, he encouraged me to create my own. I got up from that conversation and immediately went to work researching and brainstorming. I haven’t looked back since!

How long have you been working to bring everything together to start a new magazine?
The idea has been there for a while, but the actual working and moving forward didn’t start until July 2006.

Will the magazine focus only on scrapbook layouts or will you also include other paper craft projects?
Although layouts will be the main focus, we will be including other paper projects. We have two columns that focus on other paper projects: Off the Page and Practically Speaking.
