While the rest of us are getting ready to add junk to our trunks at Halloween parties this weekend, major theme parks across the nation are looking well past tricks, treats, turkey, pumpkin pie, and even Santa’s annual visit. Instead, the venues for high-octane fun are prepping for Spring 2012, when they will debut the following new thrill rides:
Busch Gardens: The Williamsburg, Virginia, theme park will start the spring off with a bang by unveiling a new roller coaster called Verbolten (German for “Forbidden”). Brave guests will enjoy a 3.5-minute high-speed adventure along a curvy 2,800-foot-long track, which includes dips into a forbidden Black Forest at speeds surpassing 55 mph.
Six Flags Great America: X-Flight is billed as the only wing coaster in the United States. It features barrel rolls and several high-speed drops with seats that straddle a 3,000-foot-long track.
Six Flags Discovery Kingdom: The Northern California-based theme park will unveil Superman: Ultimate Flight launch coaster next spring. The ride will send guests through a maze of vertical twists and a massive 150-foot-high inversion at 60 mph.
Six Flags Magic Mountain: The popular Southern California theme park is getting set to unveil Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom. The drop tower ride will be attached to both sides of the park’s 415-foot-tall Superman: Escape from Krypton coaster tower. According to park officials, once the new thrill ride is up and running, it will be the tallest (400 feet) and fastest (85 mph) drop tower in the world.
Six Flags America: Located just outside Washington D.C., the theme park will be adding a 100-foot-tall Apocalypse stand-up coaster that will send guests along a 2,900-foot-long track filled with corkscrews at speeds in excess of 55 mph.
Six Flags New England: Guests can experience chills and thrills on the new 192-foot-tall Goliath, an inverted boomerang coaster. The massive coaster sends riders forward and backward at 65 mph through a cobra roll and a loop along a 1,200-foot-long track.
