If your little guy (or girl) thinks cowboys and horses are the greatest, they’ll love this theme room. Start by painting the room a light tan color. An antique paint treatment would work great in this room.
A denim comforter would be perfect in this space, and there are several varieties available, or you can make your own. You can purchase lightweight denim in fabric and craft stores or the fabric section of many department stores. Another cool look is a patchwork quilt or a quilt made from well-worn jeans. You can purchase several pairs for just a few dollars in second hand stores and cut them into quilt squares. Denim looks terrific with red sheets.
Red bandanas are a good size for great looking accent pillows. Sew two together and stuff them with fiberfill, or use two of them to cover existing pillows. Try pink bandanas and pink sheets with a pretty quilt for a cowgirl room. You can also find bandana print fabric, or cow print fabric, leather, and suede are also great in a cowboy theme room, for pillows, throws, and accent rugs.
Use rope for trim around the room just below the ceiling or as chair rail. You and your child can have fun learning to tie some cool knots and then use them for extra accents. You can staple it in place with your trusty staple gun or tack it up with a few finish nails. Use a worn milk pail for a wastebasket and throw in several other distressed pieces, including distressed furniture.
Visit an antique shop or go online to find fun antique items like branding irons, horseshoes, and spurs. These look cute hung above doors and windows. Hang a cowboy hat or two on the wall. Find an Old West calendar and frame the pictures from it.
Swinging saloon doors make perfect closet doors, and distressed shutters are just right for window treatments. These can also be found at antique shops, salvage centers, and online.
