Could Your Baby Be a Model?

baby If you have ever looked at your child and wondered if your baby could be a model then you’ll want to keep reading. I’ll talk about some of the things that make it more likely for your baby to have the opportunity to model.

Good photos

No, don’t run out an get professional photos that cost hundreds of dollars. Your baby will grow so quickly that the expensive photos will soon become useless. Legitimate agencies don’t expect babies just starting out in the modeling world to have professional photos. Instead, take two nice snapshots of your baby, one featuring her face and the other featuring her entire face and body. And the worse mistake you can make is to take that adorable shot of your baby with spaghetti all over his face. Although you may think the photo is adorable, someone looking to book your baby for a photo shoot will not.

Proximity

Being near New York, Los Angeles or London increases your baby’s chances of becoming a model. You’ll need to go on “go sees,” “castings” or “consultation days” on short notice, and most agencies book from these cities. That is not to say that your baby can’t model wherever she is, just that it helps to be close to all of the action. Catalogues may especially seek our babies in other areas for print work, but again it helps if you are near a major city. If you are in a rural location, contact regional newspapers and magazines. They may be interested in hiring your child directly, or they may pass on the name and contact information for the local agency they use.

Personality

Does your little one charm everyone she meets. Looks are important of course, but casting agents look for personality, too. Your baby’s personality should be able to come through on camera, and she should be easy going enough to handle a new environment and strangers around her. Babies who like a strict schedule may find it difficult when nap time is cut short or interrupted by a photo shoot. Expect your baby to be relaxed in front of the camera and held by others while you wait behind the photographer or off to the side.
