Countdown to Spring Break

Winter has been especially brutal for residents living in the Midwest and along the East Coast, which is why I was not surprised to hear that spring break travel is expected to break records this year. People are sick and tired of the cold and snow and can’t wait to escape to sun, sand and surf.

If you are looking to getaway to a tropical locale this spring, be sure to formulate a master plan before you head out. While you don’t have to plan out every minute of your vacation, it’s a good idea to devise a loose schedule and create a list of must-see attractions. If you are heading to a theme park, take note of the hours of operation and price of admission and parking. Likewise, if you are traveling abroad, make sure you familiarize yourself with the local customs and get the facts on available medical services.

Once you choose a vacation destination, reduce your stress level by creating a packing checklist. Consider packing neutral-colored, functional clothing that can be mixed and matched. This will provide you with more flexibility and help eliminate excess baggage fees. In regards to personal items, stick with the essentials. Missing toiletries can be purchased at your destination. However, you don’t want to forget to pack important travel documents, such as valid passports and current ID cards. Also, don’t forget to bring along copies of your hotel and car rental reservations and confirmation information.

Finally, regardless of where you are planning to travel this spring break, it’s always a good idea to set a budget. Doing so will allow you to stretch your vacation dollar as far as possible. Before you hit the road, look for ways to save on hotel accommodations, gas, meals, tolls and souvenirs. Internet coupon sites are a valuable resource for travelers looking to score discounts on everything from hotel rooms to admission to major theme parks.
