Summer is primetime for reunions. Whether you are attending an annual family get-together or that all-important 20th high school reunion, the special moments shared at the events can be treasured for years to come by crafting a scrapbook.
If you are just getting started with scrapbooking and are looking to create an album to store all the precious memories made and shared at your summer reunion, my best tip: Keep it simple.
Avoid trying to bite off more than you can chew, otherwise your memory album will end up looking like a mish mash of odds and ends. The trick to keeping your scrapbook organized is to plan ahead. For example, if you are scrapping a family reunion, then you’ll want to create family name pages to keep track of all the guests. However, keep in mind that not everyone at the reunion will share the same last name, but they’ll all be connected by blood or marriage. If you want to pay homage to your ancestral family name create a memory page using the original moniker as your main banner. You can then add birth and death dates, copies of marriage licenses and plenty of old photos retracing the roots of your family’s founding fathers.
Pictures are the heart of any reunion scrapbook, so plan on taking plenty of photos of guests. Once you print the images, you can organize the layouts in a variety of ways. One option is to assemble pages by family. To do this, you should snap semi-formal group photos of individual family units, and then add candid shots to the page design to create a memorable gallery. Another idea is to gather the entire group for one large family portrait, and then use the rest of the pages to create a time line which depicts major family milestones from the days of your great-great-grandparents to the present. Include names, photos, and bits of information about the events that shaped your family over the years.
