Crafts for Teens

While teenagers tend to have a lot going on in their lives, they also get bored easily when they don’t have specific plans. These craft projects will help keep teens busy and will allow them to make cool stuff for their rooms.

Curling Iron or Hair Straightener Holder

Purchase two rectangular shaped potholders. Remove the little loop on the corner of each one, being careful not to split the seam. Place the potholders so the printed sides are facing each other. Start at the top corner and sew down the side, across the bottom, and up the other side. Cut a piece of ribbon 10″ long and sew one end to each top corner. Hang it up and use it to keep hot irons off the bathroom counter or dresser top.

Use printed potholders or plain ones and decorate to taste. This craft project also makes a good activity for slumber parties.

*Be sure to unplug irons before placing in holder!

False Bottom for Dresser Drawer

Boys and girls alike will think this project is cool, but don’t worry Mom and Dad. You know it’s there, so kids aren’t going to stash stuff they shouldn’t! The idea is to give older kids a secret place to hide private things, like journals or notes, from snooping younger siblings. Make sure little ones don’t see this project in the works! It can be a secret shared between teen and parent, and your kids will think you’re pretty cool.

You will need two lengths of 1″ x 2″ that are as long as the drawer is deep. Turn them flat or up, depending on how deep you want the secret hiding place to be. Attach 1″ x 2″ strips to the side edges inside the drawer with just a bit of wood glue (don’t use much or you will have trouble removing them later). Trace the bottom of the drawer onto a thin piece of plywood (3/8″ is sufficient). Cut inside the lines. Sand down to avoid splinters. Paint if desired. Slip the plywood in place on top of the wood strips and cover it up with clothing.

*If you don’t have teens, you can do this project with little kids too, and give them a place to hide superhero stuff or spy gear.
