One of my daughter’s second grade classmates spent spring break on a Disney cruise. She returned with a tan and a scrapbook of her high seas adventures, but this was no ordinary memory book. Leave it to the imagineers at Disney to come up with a way to create a 3D scrapbook in the shape of a cruise ship.
I’ve never seen anything like it before, and I assume you can only get one if you set sail on the floating House of Mouse. However, just because you can’t get your hands on a pop-up cruise ship scrapbook, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t document your dream voyage. There are dozens of ways you can craft a cruise memory album that you can be proud of.
For example, one of the most noteworthy aspects of sailing is the picturesque destinations. Many cruises tour exotic locales, such as Hawaii, Mexico, Caribbean and the Mediterranean. To preserve memories of these special spots, consider collecting memorabilia and snapping plenty of pictures. To personalize your layouts look for embellishments associated with your cruise destination. For instance, if you are cruising to Hawaii, look for die cuts of palm trees and hula dancers. Or, if you are voyaging to Alaska, pick out stickers in the shape of seals, polar bears and glaciers. The embellishments will help reinforce your cruise theme and reflect the highlights of your trip.
Another way you can spice up a cruise memory album is to get creative with your layouts. Rather than putting together a boring page design with traditional frames and a journaling block, consider crafting porthole-shaped frames for your favorite vacation photos. Depending on how many family members or friends are joining you on your cruise, you could make rows of the porthole-shaped frames and add a photo of your travel companions in each one. Then, make the background of the layout the same color as your cruise ship, so the page mimics the real vessel.
