Cruise News: Luxury Sailings, Toy Story on Water, and Hollywood on the High Seas

LUXURY SAILINGS

In previous blogs I’ve fantasized about staying in luxury hotel suites and riding the rails in ritzy train cabins, but none compare to the ultra-luxe trip being offered by Silversea Cruises.

For a mere $110,000 per cabin you can set sail on a 92-day Pacific voyage in 2009. The award-winning luxury line is a favorite of the rich and famous and the $110,000 price tag is one of the cheapest seats on the ship. The best cabin (which features two bedrooms) is retailing for $393,000 or roughly $4300 per day.

TOY STORY ON WATER

If your kids are fans of Woody and Buzz Lightyear then you’d better book your trip on Disney Cruise Lines NOW. The company just announced it has adapted the Disney-Pixar animated film Toy Story into an elaborate musical that will debut on the 2,700-passenger Disney Wonder this spring.

Disney officials say Toy Story (on the high seas) will be one of the largest productions ever developed for a cruise ship.

HOLLYWOOD ON THE HIGH SEAS

For adults who like movies Princess Cruises has good news for you. During the week of February 11th, passengers on Princess ships will be treated to the movie premiere of Bonneville, starring Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates and Joan Allen.

The film’s high seas debut (which will be shown on the line’s 16 ships) comes two weeks before its official February 29th launch in theaters across the United States. According to cruise directors, it’s the first time a movie has premiered on a cruise ship.

Princess passengers will get to view the movie in ship theaters and on the giant outdoor LED screens, which the cruise line has installed on some vessels in recent years. Princess shows films on the massive screens nightly during a popular program called “Movies Under the Stars.”
